The new Jai-Ho. Did we REALLY need it?
With the bat of a false lash and the swivel of a hip, the Pussy Cat Doldrums have remade the A.R. Rahman, Slumdog Millionaire hit - Jai Ho!
Jai Ho you ask; yes Jai Ho! The song that just won an Oscar? Yes, that one.
The song that left everyone dancing in the aisles at the end of the movie? YES, for goodness sake, YES!!! THAT Jai Ho.
I'm sure A.R. felt the seduction of distribution royalties and future movie soundtrack; and who can blame the PCD's for jumping on the opportunity to infuse their already waning careers with an step-by-step remake of an indisputable hit. But overwhelmingly this remake reeks of how the industry imposed limitations on the intellect and cultural compassion of their consumers.
An assumption that since Jai Ho's words and musicianship are not of our own, we couldn't embrace it's spirited rhythms and infectious anthem. You know what I say? Don't believe them.
